How do new employees set-up Duo (two-factor authentication)?

What is Duo?

As part of NewYork-Presbyterian’s ongoing efforts to maintain secure information systems and protect them from cybercrime, we have added an important, remote-access security feature referred to as Two-Factor Authentication. This is an extra layer of security designed to prevent others from accessing or using your account, even if they know your password. It relies on a smartphone or other device to quickly and easily verify your identity when logging in from off-campus computers. 

New employees will need to set-up Duo in order to complete the online orientation from home.

How to set-up Duo:

As a new NYP employee, you will receive an email to your personal account (the one you first applied with) 14 calendar days before your start date with the following information:    

  • Your CWID (the first part of your NYP email address) and temporary password
  • Instructions on how to change your password
  • Information on how to set up Duo

Duo two-factor authentication is needed to login to many NYP systems, and we ask that you set this up prior to your start date. Your username is also referred to as your Center Wide Identity, or CWID (pronounced “seaweed”). Use your CWID and temporary password (examples shown below), and follow the instructions.

Please complete the following steps:

  • Navigate to
  • Enter the CWID above and click Continue. 
  • Enter your CWID and Temporary Password above and follow the screen prompts to enroll in Duo.
  • After a device is registered, click the link on the bottom of the screen to change your password.
