What is the New York COVID-19 Travel Advisory and what are the steps for new hires traveling from one of the restricted states?

On January 7, 2021 the New York State Department of Health issued changes in the COVID testing guidance for Health Care Personnel (HCP) who traveled to a state that does not directly border NY (i.e., any state OTHER THAN New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, or Vermont) or traveled to a territory or to a foreign country.

As of Tuesday, January 12, 2021 HCP (including those who received the COVID-19 vaccine) who are returning from travel should be tested for SARS-CoV-2 by PCR within 24 hours of their return AND again on the fourth day after they return.

The 24-hour test must be negative to return to work, but HCP can continue to work while waiting for the results of their day 4 test as long as they are asymptomatic and complete their COVID Pass.

Staff and newly hired employees are encouraged to schedule their COVID PCR testing in advance to allow for testing within 24 hours of their return and on the 4th day after their return.  Please contact the WHS Hotline at 646-697-9470 to arrange testing.  Newly hired employees should also notify their onboarding point-of-contact in case the start date needs to be adjusted.

Please carefully review the attached document. This information is important to keep you and patients safe during the COVID-19 response.
