What are the basic features in Zoom?

Overview Summary

This article contains an overview of the Zoom Virtual Meeting platform.  Specifically, this article references how to use the controls within a Zoom Meeting.

Key Features:

  • Using the Command Panel as the Host in a Zoom Meeting
  • Using the Command Panel as a Participant in a Zoom Meeting

How it Works:

As a Host

  • Create a Zoom Meeting
  • Locate the Command Panel at the bottom of the Meeting Window
  • The left side commands control the Audio and Video components of the meeting

  • Click to turn the microphone or camera on and off.
  • Click the chevron to access advanced microphone and video settings
  • The center commands control an assortment of meeting features (the features shown below include additional Host options)

  • Click Security to open the Security drop-down menu
  • Set permissions for participants to share screen, chat etc.

  • Click Participants to open the Participants panel
  • You can use this panel to view your meeting attendees
  • Hover over their names to adjust privileges and audio/video controls

  • Click Chat to open the Chat panel
  • Type and view messages from participants
  • Use the advanced settings to determine who can and cannot chat

  • Click Share Screen to open the screen sharing window
  • Use this window to determine what content to share with participants

  • Click Record to start a recording of the session
  • The recording will save as an mp4 file when it is completed

As a Participant

  • Join a Zoom Meeting
  • Locate the Command Panel at the bottom of the Meeting Window
  • The left side commands control the Audio and Video components of the meeting

  • Click Chat to open the Chat panel
  • Type and view messages from other participants

  • Click Share Screen to open the screen sharing window
  • Use this window to determine what content to share with the group
  • Sharing must be enabled for Participants by the Host

  • Click Record to start a recording of the session
  • You must first request recording permission from the Host, who can then grant Participants recording privileges

  • Click Reactions to display a temporary clapping hands or a thumbs up emoji

WebEx System Requirements for PC & MAC

  1. Bandwidth Requirements
    • 0 Mbps up and down for single screen
    • 0 Mbps up 4.0 Mbps down for dual screen
    • Screen Sharing Only: 150-300kbps
    • Audio VoIP: 60-80kbps
  2. Zoom Platform Requirements
    • PC – Windows 7 and higher
    • MAC – OS x with Mac 10.10 and higher
